He first began to develop his artistic gift as a child. Drawn to the fine arts, he abandoned a course in architectural drawing to take up painting. Through his acquaintance with the artist Gil Abelha, he joined the artistic movement of the historical centre of Salvador (known as the Pelourinho), meeting a number of artists who encouraged him, such as Totonho, Calixto Sales, Walba, Luís Lourenço, Edmundo Simas and the art dealerEvaldo Oliveira.
He then affiliated himself to the Associação de Artistas Populares do Centro Histórico de Salvador (AAPCHS), integrating the board of directors for a term. In 1988, he participated in his first collective exhibition, I Expo Natura at Galeria Abrigo da Arte in Salvador, Bahia, and finally drew the public's attention in 1991, when he was awarded the Acquisition Prize at the I Bienal do Recôncavo at the Centro Cultural Danneman in São Félix, Bahia. One of the most important exhibitions of his career was held at Galeria Solar Ferrão, at the Pelourinho.
Abroad, he participated of the Prix Suisse et Prix Europe de Peinture Moderne at Galerie Pro Arte Kasper in Morges, Switzerland (1994), and in the solo exhibitions Brasilidade, held at Galeria Praça do Mar in Loulé, Portugal and then at the L´Espace Culturel du Parlement Européen in Brussels, Belgium (2001). He participated in the group show Cores da Bahia at the Irdeb Theatre of Salvador's Educational TV (2014). He is also a singer, composer and musician
